Cellulite Treatment in San Jose & Palo Alto
Roughly 90% of women have some degree of cellulite. Many have tried ineffective treatments and feel frustrated by the poor results. For these women, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Daryl K. Hoffman offers an effective non-surgical treatment for cellulite in San Jose or Palo Alto - Acoustic Wave Therapy (AWT).
Unlike most other cellulite treatments available today, AWT treats both of the major causes of cellulite: the hardening of fibrous septae (the support system of fat) and the protrusion of fat cells into the deeper layers of the skin, which causes the "cottage cheese" appearance typical of cellulite. The treatment works by producing a pressure wave that passes through skin and fat to address both of these causes.
AWT can improve the appearance of cellulite for areas such as the buttocks, thighs, abdomen and arms. If you would like more dramatic body sculpting results in these areas, Dr. Hoffman also offers surgical solutions such as Smartlipo™ and abdominoplasty. The Procedure
AWT is used to treat cellulite in Palo Alto and San Jose. The procedure may be performed on an outpatient basis and because it is completely noninvasive, it requires no anesthesia or pain medication. Each session typically lasts no more than 30 minutes. Two gentle yet effective methods of applying pressure waves can be used to achieve the look you desire:
- The radial head produces a slow wave that is long in duration. This wave breaks up the fibrous septae and increases collagen production. At higher frequencies, the radial head may even improve muscle tone.
- The planar head produces a higher energy wave of extremely short duration. Like the radial head, the planar head breaks up the septae.
Recovery and Results
After AWT, no recovery time is necessary and you may return to your normal activities immediately. Very rarely, some women may experience mild bruising or redness. Multiple sessions are often needed to achieve optimal results. Dr. Hoffman will determine how many sessions will be necessary (typically 6 to 12) and how frequently the sessions should be performed.
