Summer is a time for a lot of fun in the sun. If you've spent time at the pool, the beach, or even at the park for summer picnics, your skin could use some healthy rejuvenation after the copious amounts of ultra violet rays it has been taking in all summer long. At my
California plastic surgery practice, I have the tools to get your skin to full recovery.
Laser Skin Resurfacing: The
Fraxel laser is a unique technique that corrects sun damage, which happens to everyone in the summertime, wrinkles and skin pigmentation. Prior to the Fraxel laser, laser treatments involved long and uncomfortable recovery time. However, this laser actually causes the treated areas to produce collagen at an increased rate, which ultimately speeds up the healing time. The laser will not only correct damage, but give your skin an overall more youthful appearance.
Chemical Peels: If laser resurfacing isn't your forte, why not try the
Obagi Blue Peel? Not only does this chemical peel reverse sun damage, it can reduce acne scars and age spots. It also works hard to correct wrinkling and discoloration, which can be increased by sun damage. Even if you don't have any of these problems, the Obagi Blue Peel can give you a gorgeous glow to your skin because it removes those dead skin cells that cause dullness. No matter your skin issue, the Fraxel laser will improve your overall complexion.
Skin Care Products: Yet there are still some patients that rather rejuvenate their skin on their own. That is why my
California plastic surgery practice provides Obagi skin care products. By simply coming in and allowing me to assess your skin, I will be able to lead you to the perfect Obagi product to fix your particular skin issues. Obagi Nu-Derm, in particular, is popular with my patients due to its ability to prevent the signs of aging at a cellular level, instead of just on the skin's surface.
My practice also backs Jan Marini products. These
skin care products address skin issues such as pigmentation, adult and teen acne, skin texture and wrinkles. Jan Marini even has sun protection products, to avoid skin damage in the first place. Each skin care problem is given different formulas to address not only your problem, but works with your type of skin whether it is dry, oily, or normal.
Don't let the sun get the best of your skin. The summer is meant to be a fun time. So enjoy it. And when the summer is over, give your skin that extra boost so it can come out on top of the battle with the sun. Be your skin's best friend and treat it to a little spa time so it can recover from all of its hard work.
Cosmetic surgery has always been dominated by females. However, where males used to be a rare occurrence, they are now steadily growing into their own plastic surgery circles. According to an American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery survey, men had a total of 750,000 cosmetic procedures done last year. Many of these procedures, both minimally invasive and surgical, are ones I do in my
California plastic surgery practice.
Botox was the top minimally invasive procedure in 2010. Coincidentally, this is also the number one for women. And why wouldn't it be? An in-office procedure, a few quick injections will relax the muscles around the eyes and on the forehead to give a smoother and younger appearance. A few visits a year is all it takes to keep those wrinkles at bay.
Laser hair removal fell into the second top spot. An abundance of hair all over or in certain areas can be annoying, uncomfortable, and even cause embarrassment for some patients. Waxing and shaving can be a pain, especially for an area such as the back. Laser hair removal is able to cut down these hassles and allow a person to be seen past their body hair.
Dermal fillers didn't fall too far behind Botox. By filling out certain parts of the face, wrinkles will reduce. Fillers can also add a fuller appearance to places such as the cheeks and lips, which make you look younger.
Laser treatments, such as the
Fraxel laser treatments I perform in California, were next on the list. Treatments such as this correct sun damage, wrinkles, and uneven pigmentation. Paired with a treatment such as Botox, you'll say goodbye to wrinkles happily and easily.
Microdermabrasion took the fifth slot. Possibly the least invasive, a few sessions of microdermabrasion will reduce wrinkles, smooth out the texture of your skin, and give you an overall glowing appearance.
Though minimally invasive procedures definitely outweigh surgical procedures for men, there are still some that were popular enough last year. Some men were clearly in search for more dramatic results that minimally invasive procedures just can't give you.
Liposuction took the top spot for men. Many men suffer from guts or "beer bellies" and liposuction is a great way to get rid of it along with exercise and diet. In California, I perform traditional liposuction,
Smartlipo,
Body Jet Liposuction, and
VASER Liposelection. All of these give different types of results, depending on what the patient is seeking.
Rhinoplasty came in second to lipo. Whether it's because a patient has breathing issues, or simply is unhappy with the size or shape of their nose, I can help reshape the nose into something you'll love. It can also make the face be more symmetrical as well as fix your facial profile.
Eyelid surgery was the next most popular procedure in men. As we age our eyes begin to sag, droop, and wrinkle, as well as have occurrences of puffiness and excess skin that won't go away. By removing these fatty deposits and excess skin that have formed, and tightening the skin around the eyes, you will automatically look younger.
Breast reductions surprisingly came in at only fourth place. This is a very common procedure for men who have overly large breasts. Because of the idea that only women have breasts, it can be highly embarrassing to take off ones shirt in a public place. A breast reduction is a great way to regain self-esteem and to have an overall pleasing body shape.
Ear surgery took the last spot for most popular male cosmetic surgery. Usually performed on younger patients, ears that stick out or lop ears can cause disproportion to the head and face. By pinning them back, balance is set.
Plastic surgery is no longer gender specific. In fact, everyone can benefit from cosmetic procedures. It's perfectly natural to want to look your best. Don't let the idea that "men don't undergo cosmetic procedures" get in the way. Because statistics do show that men DO get cosmetic procedures and are happy that they did.
