Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

As we mature, we begin to look at the world with new eyes while, at the same time, our eyes themselves begin to look different. When you look at your eyes in the mirror, you see sagging or excess skin, puffiness, droopiness and wrinkles. You may wonder why you look tired, even when you do not feel it. With eyelid surgery in San Jose or Palo Alto, blepharoplasty surgeon Dr. Daryl K. Hoffman can help you to fight these signs of aging and get back the fresh, vibrant eyes of your youth.

The skin surrounding your eyes is very fragile and the eyes themselves are of great importance, both for our own vision and how others envision us. It is critical that the surgeon who works in this delicate area of your face be highly skilled. Dr. Hoffman has extensive experience performing hundreds of facial plastic surgery procedures over his years in practice and is a doctor you can trust to perform your eyelid surgery.

To learn more about eyelid surgery (also known as blepharoplasty), request your consultation with Dr. Hoffman online or call us at (650) 325-1118 (Palo Alto) or (408) 371-1118 (Campbell) to schedule your appointment.

The Procedure

Eyelid surgery is a popular facial enhancement for both women and men. For patients in Palo Alto and San Jose, eyelid surgery can address the upper eyelids, the lower eyelids, or both. The procedure is conducted either under sedation or general anesthesia; Dr. Hoffman will evaluate the best option for your comfort during surgery. The incisions themselves are carefully positioned so that they will be hidden.

Meet Dr. Hoffman
  • For the upper eyelid, the incision is made in the natural crease of the upper lid. This incision allows Dr. Hoffman to remove or reposition fat deposits, tighten muscles and skin, and remove excess skin.
  • For the lower eyelid, an incision may be made just below the lash line or inside the lower lid. As with the upper eyelid, through this incision Dr. Hoffman will remove excess skin and remove or reposition excess fat.

You may choose to have other surgical procedures like a facelift or brow lift performed at the same time as your blepharoplasty. Dr. Hoffman also may recommend the use of a laser or chemical peel to eliminate discoloration of the lower eyelids. All of your cosmetic options will be explained in detail during your consultation.

Recovery and Results

After your eyelid surgery, you will experience some swelling or bruising around the surgical site, though this typically lasts only for 1 to 2 weeks. Any visible scars will usually fade in several months. After recovery is complete, your eyes can appear much brighter and you will be able to look (and perhaps even feel) younger and more vibrant.
